Above the rooftops are the Italian Dolomites, named after their dominant rock type. They are more vertical than not. Witches are said to live at the top peak, called the Schlern. We stayed in a Tirolian village called Castelrotto, or Kastelruth. After Henri parked our ride, we settled into the Cavallino d'Oro, full of Old Country charm and an honor bar fully equipped with cappuccino, tea, juice, wine, cordials, and snacks. Slow-paced, honest times live here.

Each room had different doors and layouts--they must have known I am 5'5" with some bounce!--and each room adorned itself with a bidet! Whoo!

I spent one day  in Bolzano, where I walked to the Runkelstein Castle, hoping to see its art collection, but it was closed. The walk was ever so worth it for its vineyards and view!

After my picnic lunch on the Talvera promenade, I visited Otzi the Ice Man and adored the street vendor smells on my way back to the public bus stop.

On our last night here, I ventured with my new friends--solo traveler Dawn and mother/ daughter duo Cheryl and Robin--to the Hotel zum Turm, a Michelin Star restaurant. My cod was flaky and tender, and the saffron sauce divine. Each entree was served with a marigold.

Dessert? YES please.

We're all fueled up for Fussen!
