I stayed in Salzburg a night before the tour started and took Rick's advice to check out the Sound of Music Tour by Panorama. Our guide, Peter, kept us busy on the bus with sing-a-longs and fun pop culture history about the Von Trapps and Maria.

To the right is the gazebo where Liesl danced to sixteen. It is closed off to visitors because someone got a little too excited about dancing on the benches!
On the left, we visited the Basilika Mondsee, the actual church used for the wedding scene at the end of the movie.
Our group got there just in time to listen to choir practice. Peter said "Adieu," to us at Mirabell Gardens, pictured above.
An array of shops along the Getreidegasse gives Salzburg its charm, with plenty of opportunites for gluten-free treats! I was in heaven!
After filling myself with some Austrian energy, I toured Mozart's Birthplace, located just over the Salzach River from the historic downtown shops.
On my last night in Salzburg, another solo traveler and I ate at Sternbrau, a family-run story since 1542. I had the boiled beef with vegetables and homemade horseradish.
The little dram of homemade brandy
cleared my sinuses!
